CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY- THE VEDIC PERSPECTIVE

The paper tries to showcase some practices from leading business Houses of India who have consciously gone back to the scriptures in the area of Corporate Social responsibility thereby supporting the belief that “Corporate India is deeply rooted in Indian ethos.” For the purpose of testing this hypothesis the backdrop of Corporate social responsibility practices in the Indian corporate sector in the light of “Dharma and Karma as guided by the Vedanta” has been examined. The paper is based on desktop research and case study analysis to discern the status of CSR in the light of Indian ethos and scriptures. the paper showcases the Corporate social responsibility practices of 7 companies which have been rated as having the best CSR practices by Hing Kong-based brokerage and investment firm, CLSA, in 2011. An observation of Corporate social responsibility practices of some major companies shown an imprint of Indian Ethos and values in CSR without compromising the Primary Profit Motive. Modern Managers need to adopt Vedic precepts to stay in the race for market share a business can truly become a responsible global citizen
